digital - Judging from the buggered up slots i've seen on various Savages, a good tool is really needed. Maybe Snap-On can create one. Until they do, what I used is a very large tempered trailer washer that I just stumbled upon in my stuff as I was grousing about this very thing. My washer had a hole in it large enough to put a rod thru and I used that to get it off. Typically though anytime i'm working on aluminum or similar soft metal, I dose it down good with liquid wrench or something similar first just as added precaution against galling then go back with anti seize on installation.
